Good Trader Joe's Vegetarian Food Options

By Alexis Sanchez on December 12, 2019

So, when you are a vegetarian it can be difficult to find good food selections let alone good food choices that are not ridiculously expensive. Trader Joe’s tends to be a good, affordable supermarket with plenty of choices, but there is only one way to know what options are worth it. You have to try them! Well, I’m here to provide some insight into some really good vegetarian options before you go out there, buy something to try, and have some regrets. Here are some good Trader Joe’s vegetarian food options (probably part 1) that also won’t break the bank.

Pastry Bites with feta cheese and caramelized onions

Pastries are one of my favorite types of food to eat for breakfast or snack and I’m always on the lookout for good ones. I had the luck to try these pastry bites before buying them because Trader Joe’s had made the bites their sample that Sunday. They are flaky, warm satisfying bites of cheese and onion.

After trying the sample, I immediately threw a tray into my cart. They are so simple to make! You only need to pop them in the oven for 20-25 minutes in the tray they come in and then you have 12 pastry bites waiting for you. Since I can be stuck in graduate school classes for 3-4 hours, it was helpful that they re-heat quickly and stay warm. Even better is that they cost less than $7 so you have a snack for the week for less than $2!

Vegan Tikka Masala

I love Indian food because there are always a lot of vegetarian options by design. Since Trader Joe’s vegan tikka masala is a frozen meal, it is easy to have at home out of the oven or on the go too. For just $3.99, you get the vegan tikka masala and the jasmine rice in a wonderful blend of spices and a filling meal.

It is another good meal to have when you are stuck in classes all day or at your internship because it is a nice, warm meal without also making you feel bloated and too full. Definitely recommend keeping at least one of these in your freezer just in case!

Breaded Turkey-less Stuffed Roast with Gravy

This is the one food item that I was the most cautious to try just because it seemed like more of a commitment. This Trader Joe’s breaded turkey-less roast is whopping 2 pounds and 8 ounces with the gravy included so you know if you buy it, hope you like it because you will have a lot of it.

Since it was only $12.99, I decided it was a worthy investment and I’m so glad I did. This food lasted me the whole week (with a little bit of help) and I was able to enjoy this turkey-less roast with leftover mashed potatoes, collard greens, and stuffing from Thanksgiving. It was downright delicious! Be adventurous your next fall break and try this one out because you won’t be disappointed.
